Thoroughly Educated
Does the term ?well-educated? refer to the quality of the schooling you receive? Many factors argue the question. Familiarity with a list of words, names, books, and ideas demonstrates a uniquely poor way to judge who is well educated. Merely sitting in classrooms for x amount of hours does not make one well educated. Furthermore, students poorly educated despite acquiring a proper education. Proper education illustrates the student thoroughly comprehending information. The ability to understand information allows students to become thoroughly educated, which enhances their chances for success in the future.
However, putting hours and hours in a classroom proves pointless if the student chooses not to pay attention and not seek knowledge. Students practicing self-discipline plays a demanding role in acquiring thorough education. By having self-discipline, students force themselves to pay attention in class and make learning interesting and fun. Classrooms can be boring at times, but practicing self-discipline creates positive opportunities in a learning environment. Self-discipline in the classroom is a major characteristic of a well educated person.
Moreover, memorizing words, books, and ideas poorly judges thorough education. The majority of students procrastinate, study the night before a test, and come away with at least passing grade or worse. Bad study habits provide missed learning opportunities. Instead of soaking up vital information in their long term memories, many students back this information in
to their short term memories. Short term memory allows students to remember the information for a short period of time, and forgetting it shortly after. Yes, a select few students read material once and remember it forever, but the majority of students cannot comprehend information so expertly. Good study habits are necessary to retain material in the long term memory and become thoroughly educated.
Moreover, one can be poorly educated despite receiving a diploma from a 5A high school or a Division I college. To reiterate, students are capable of breezing through high school receiving average grades and not demonstrating their full potential. If students apply themselves to their studies and show their potential, the opportunities for the future are endless. A top notch education involves hard work and determination to showcase one?s full potential.
In conclusion, well educated does refer to the quality of schooling one receives, but pressure is also on the shoulders of the student to succeed. Thorough education does not develop because of where one attended school or how many hours one sat in class. Thoroughly educated students declare success when they devote themselves to their school work. Hard work, good study habits, and determination are keys that lead to thorough education. The keys to education open the door of understanding which in full allows one to become thoroughly educated.
