African American Gangs were formed in Los Angeles in the 1920?s. In the 1920?s it wasn?t as much crips as there were bloods. Back in 1920?s, 1930?s, and 1940?s they weren?t being called gangs they were being called Clubs. There were two different kinds of clubs it was the Bloods they represented the color red, and then there were the Crips who represented the color blue. The bloods and the crips don?t get along because the crips began to expand their club to non-crip territories and tried to take over. By the 1980?s there were 30,000 gang members in the city of Los Angeles alone.

I constantly asked myself day after day is gang members, and gang bangers the same. I was pleased to find out what they were, and that they didn?t mean the same thing when I finally got to interview a gang member. Roberto Paco Loc Perez was the gang member I interviewed and it was quite interesting.

I was so interested when I interviewed Paco Loc because I finally got to ask the question what?s the difference between gang members and gang bangers. I found out that gang members are an individual who commits himself or herself into organizing an organization of individuals that can be controlled, and one who belongs to a similar circle and controlling area with violence and also with drugs. Gang bangers are an individual who don?t care about anything at all, and by all means necessary represent his gang to the fullest. Paco Loc was both he was a gang member in a gang. Paco Loc was 11 years old when he begun to gang bang. He was influenced because he was the only boy out of all his mother kids and didn?t have to much of a father figure, so he hung out with friends which wasn?t a decent choice of friends because they all eventually turned into gang members. I was concerned if the streets and gang members showed Paco Loc more love so when I asked him did being a bang member show you more love than your parents he replied and said ?No but he felt very bad because his mom was angry and sad about him gang banging she felt as if she was a failure. She felt like a failure to Paco because Paco disappointed her and took the wrong path in life.

A lot of people believe that gang members and gang bangers are affiliated with drugs and they are correct. When you join a gang you begin selling and using narcotic drugs such as marijuana, heroin, cocaine, ecstasy and plenty other narcotic drugs. Paco Loc did sell drugs and he said he also used them. He said he smoked marijuana, tried PCP one time and will never do it again, snorted cocaine, and that was about it. He also said he smoked cigarettes and drunken alcohol beverages all before he was 21 and legal to do those things. A lot of gang members only think their connected to drugs so they can earn money a faster way but the faster way only lands you in trouble for a long time.

Paco Loc said when he became a gang banger his life begun to change. His life changed for the worse he started to dress like a gang banger, he wore Chuck Taylor, khaki dickies, and white tee shirts and has his gang tatted across his back. He also begun to think differently he figured since he?s a gang member he had to prove himself to others, watch his surroundings and also be careful of his actions. Paco Loc wasn?t as careful with his actions and proving himself because he was incarcerated at the age of 25 and was charged for possession of a loaded gun, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of crystal meth, GTTA, and assault and stayed in prison for 13years. Paco Loc had 11 kids and said by him being a gang member he spent a lot of time in and out of jail. Paco Loc kids were sad because they were beginning to grow up like him without a father but while he was incarcerated he said ?He never missed a birthday card, Christmas card, or any other holiday cards?. I can relate to his kids feeling sad because I grew up and the exact
