On the Lanes
A vast number of sports are not often seen because of the overwhelming popularity of baske tball and football. Bowling, one of those sports, is becoming one of the fastest growing sports in the United States. The sport of bowling has been growing in recent years due to organizations such as ESPN and CBS showing it on T.V. Also , several celebrities have made their own teams, such as Kevin Hart and his Philadelphia Hitman. W hat is so great about competitive bowling an yways? Competitive bowling is amazing because of the adventurous traveling, fierce competition, and the supportive organizations.
Traveling to the bowling tournaments can be the most fun that there is on the trip. Often, they can be very far away, but not always. The roads that lead to these tournaments are always an adventure, containing sights and sounds unique to the area. The Steer Inn in Indianapolis was an amazing little restaurant that was a local favorite, and was even on Food Network. The food in every area can be considered the best part. Atlanta has the best chili restaurant ever, it is called "The Varsity," located in downtown Atlanta. The sights are also an interesting experience when traveling. Chicago has a single tower that tourists can climb to the top of to see the entire city and Lake Erie. People make up these cities, and the accents and personalities of these people are alw ays different. Coming from the South and traveling N orth is on e of the biggest changes ever.
The trips are fun until you arrive, that is when it is time to get serious and win. Bowlers from all around the country will be at these tournaments, of all shapes and sizes. Competitive bowling tournaments are divided up into two divisions, U12 and U20. The U12 group is ages twelve to fifteen, and the U20 group is sixteen to twenty. In the tournament, the two divisions are organized by averages, starting from lowest to highest. The state championship is always held in the state's respective capitol. In the 2014 tournament in Montgomery I succeeded in winning the tournament and becoming state champion. The road was hard, having to bowling six round though over six hundred people. You have to win a state championship or another major tournament to get a ticket to nationals. In 2014, I made it to n ationals in Chicago, Illinois, finishing 43 rd in the country. Bowling on a competitive level is challenging and takes determination, but anyone can do it with enough effort.
One thing about competitive bowling is that it has wonderful organizations that support it like the USBC. The USBC stands for United States Bowling Corporation. The USBC constantly supports young bowlers with scholarship money to help out with college. This money is transferred into a smart account where only you can access the money for college . Last year I won $1000 in scholarship money from the USBC. Also just by becoming a member of the USBC, you can get discounts on games and equipment. Also, there is always bowling balls given away at the tournaments. Not to mention you get a free subscription to the USBC magazine which offers plenty of helpful advice. Compet itive bowlers are taken care of to the fullest extent.
The life of a competitive bowler is an exciting one, full of adventure and excitement. Whether it is the fun adventures tha t you get while traveling, or the fierce competition that rouses you up during the tournaments. It could even be that you love the USBC for supporting the youth bowlers. Whatever it is, bowling is an amazing sport th at is growing every year. Bowling could even soon become a major sport in America, now being an Olympic sport. The continuing growth of bowling shows its rising popularity.
