Motivation in Advertising

This commercial is displayed nationwide with children from around the World who is need of food, clothing and shelter. This commercial which is frequently shown nationwide tells so much of their feelings from their expressions and the sadness in their eyes. This is” Feed the Children” commercial brought to you by Larry Jones.

Feed the Children
The children are always clothed in rags but most times there is a commercial some of the children are shown dirty, naked, living in dirty shelters, sometimes on the waysides and holding empty bowls portraying the lack of food.
They appear malnutrient and look very dirty with this sadness in their faces. When you look at these children even though they are dirty, you can still see their cute faces and that causes so much compassion to the audience.
After the pictures of these children are shown Larry narrates the needs to help feed these children and demonstrate what the donation can buy and assisting to the children. His slogan is “With only ten dollars you can feed a child for an entire month”.
The commercial is designed to touch the heart of the audience and inspired them to think as if these children were their own and be willing to help feed the children. I must say as long as you have a heart of compassion you will be willing to help and you will also think about what 10 dollars can buy for these children.

Theories of Motivations

The tone of the commercial is somber, sad and touching to see such hungry kids in another country while you watch some people waste food and there are children out there that needs it and there were multiply theories of motivation that were displayed with a lot of emotions. Larry Jones shown strong determinations and it would have not been so effected if there were no pictures. This program has helped many children and Larry Jones still venture into the world seeking and helping the less fortunate.

There are multiple theories of motivation that are displayed in the commercial. The instinct theory to want to help and help feed the children is presented. I would say that the instinct to help shows compassion and willing to do the right thing.
The motivation drive theory I would say is also a part of the commercial in that you are motivated to want to do something to take action. For some they perhaps call and sign up but for others the commercial can really drive them to want to do more, giving them purpose in helping the feed the children.
The hierarchal motivations I feel was used as well but instead of for one’s self they are viewed through the children needs. For example, the desire to help the children physiologically with providing them food, water, safety and sleep. Love and belonging for children to be in an environment where they feel like they are loved and cared for. Those same motivations that we see for ourselves are projected to children to receive the same and them in their needs.

Conclusion
Larry did a great job in presenting this commercial and without pictures of these hungry children, the way they live and also showing what a donation can do for them, it would not have been so inspiring and convincing to the audience.
This program has helped many children and Larry Jones still venture into the world seeking and helping the less fortunate. Imagine seeing your children slowly starving... and having nothing to feed them. For countless destitute families, this is a grim reality
