Six Dimensions of Health Worksheet

Part 1

For each of the following six dimensions of health, list at least one characteristic, activity, belief, or attitude that reflects that dimension in your life. Provide a brief explanation with each example. Refer to Ch. 1 in the text for explanations of these dimensions.

Physical health:
To me physical health is getting out on a daily basis. I take my kids to the park after school and we play tag or soccer; but in the winter and when it rains we play the Wii we?ll play Wii sport or one of the dancing games just to get so type of exercise.

Social health:
For me social health is being able to have a relationship with others whether it?s personal or friendship with people around or near your own age. I try to go out with my friends at least once a month; but with three kids any adult conversation is a plus for me.

Intellectual health:
Intellectual health for me is being able to think clearly under pressure. What I try to do is take a step back to look at the picture as a whole when it comes to a problem I have at home or at work.

Environmental health:
I believe environmental health is recycling or participating in community activities. I recycle and try to remember to use the reusable bags when I go to a grocery store. Also I taught my kids that being litterbugs is not right and we go to the activities they have in the community like once a year they have a city clean up down town. Where we go and help clean up the down town area in our city.

Emotional health:
Emotional health for me is being able to handle my feeling in a respectable way and being able to talk about how I feel. I try to vent my feeling to someone that I can trust.

Spiritual health:
Having spiritual health is being having a strong belief in a higher being. For me I feel you really don?t have to go to church every other day or every Sunday. I believe that god is all around us and I don?t need to go to church to talk to him or to give him thanks.

Part 2

In approximately 125 to 200 words, describe health and wellness in your own words using the ideas and concepts for each of the six dimensions of health.

For me health and wellness is eating right, getting some type of exercise routine in your schedule, and taking care of your needs before taking care of others. What I mean when I say eating healthy is making the right decisions when it comes to what type of food you put in your body; for example me putting down that bag of chips or donut and eating pretzels or a yogurt instead. My exercise routine consist of me going for walks when I am by myself but mostly I go to the park with my children and we play tag, or soccer. What I mean by taking care of your own needs before others is that everyone needs time outside of the house whether it?s by themselves or with others that are in/near the same age group as them. Sometimes taking a break from your family can help a person clear their minds.
